Washing & Care
This is the easy part. It’s true!
But let’s go back a bit. When you first receive your bundle of Bumblebeez, you’re going to be excited. You’re going to want to get bub into one, and take photos for insta (make sure you tag us @aussiebumblebeez, haha). But first things first. You’ll thank yourself later.
First wash
Wash all of your inserts first. Three times is minimum. 5 times is better (the more you wash your inserts, the more absorbent they become). What this does is fattens the fibres in the bamboo inner, making them way more absorbent. They will progressively get more absorbent over the next few washes also. It’s like washing your bath towels before you use them. It gets them ready to do their best work.
While you’re waiting, size up your outers to fit snug. Use the horizontal rows of snaps to adjust the height front to back. Or you can adjust them while you’re fitting your first one on bub, and then make all the others the same.
Then fit the insert into the nappy through the back pocket. Add a nappy liner in the middle of the nappy, and you’re all set. We’ve found that putting a nappy liner in at this stage, and having the nappy ready for change time is helpful, then you’re not scouting around for the liner.
All other washes/changes
At change time, after you’ve put bub into a fresh Bumblebeez nappy, you can flush the liner, it’s biodegradable. Then separate the inner from the outer by pulling it out of the pocket at the back of the nappy.
Or just rinse if it's only wet, hang to dry, and reuse as a nappy wipe.
If you’ve used a nappy liner, and it’s a dirty nappy, the liner should catch most of the solids. Otherwise, rinse everything well after changing, and pop into a closed container – no need to add chemicals, just rinse everything well. For wet nappies, separate and rinse well again as urine can damage the outer liner in the nappy, and it’s not great on the elastic in the legs either. Rinsing the nappies extends their life, and can help increase absorbency too. Then pop them into a lidded bucket or pail and wash within a couple of days. When washing, add your normal powder, wash in warm water (no more than around 30 degrees) and dry in sunlight and fresh air where possible. Pull the nappy insert back into shape before drying if it becomes scrunched.
